A gradual magnification of our daily life, as it is seen and presented by the city’s locals. Yes, the Thracian Folklore Celebrations is the story narrated by the city, donning masks, freed from its every-day facade. It is the narration of a well-known story through dance and music, traditional and modern, as it is felt by the folklore groups, as it is felt by the locals, in every dance floor, every square, every street. Its is the words we try to utter, the notes of those who studied us in an effort to expound and explain the actions and acts. It is the images, as they were imprinted on the canvass or film roll of those who share this thirst of ours. It is a pondering, such as what does it mean to be a resident of this city at the close of the millennium. How do we measure up to our heritage and what are our new views. The Thracian Folkloric Celebrations is a source of joy, entertainment, jubilee, giving life to the credo «the land where laughter was born», it is the participation, co-operation, team effort. Xanthi is a Municipality of 100,000 residents and this institution is certainly not a world-breaking one; yet, it is proof that we try, imagine, and struggle in accordance to our strengths.
In Xanthi, with the backdrop of the area’s natural beauty, the hospitality offered by the locals, the delicious delicacies and thirst-quenching drinks, the fun emanating from the spirit of Mardi Gras and the jubilant festivities, the visitor becomes a participant and that’s how the story goes.
