Holy Metropolitan Church
This is the Metropolis of the City of Xanthi. It features a three-part basilica and is located at the central square of the Old Town, built in 1839.
It is made of stone and is a one-storey building with hand-carved woodwork at the roof. Later restorations (1067) performed at the church’s frontal exterior destroyed the original narthix and altered its original form.
Aside from the main Church and a few metres away a three-storey bell tower was build in 1924, made of fortified concrete and featuring interesting architecture.
